Project information

Identity, art direction and wayfinding for the ‘Universe of Sound: The Planets’ exhibition at the Science Museum in London, by the London Philharmonia Orchestra. ‘Universe of Sound: The Planets’ is an interactive digital installation allowing you to explore, play and interact with the entire 132 piece symphony orchestra from the inside out as they perform Holst’s The Planets. The exhibition attracted over 50,000 visitors and was extended twice due to its popularity.

“Being inside an orchestra is one of the biggest adrenalin rushes, and one that I want to share with the world. Now we’re doing just that.” Esa-Pekka Salonen, Principal Conductor, Philharmonia Orchestra.

The design combines the orchestra’s instruments with planetarium-style projections, which create impact and intrigue in order to appeal to those who usually shy away from orchestral concerts.
